Brough received the BATTLE EFFICIENCY "E" PLAQUE for CORTRON FOURTEEN for FY 1956.
On August 26, 1957 the Brough departed Newport, R.I. for Dunedin, New Zeland, via the Panama Canal, arriving there September 25, 1957. During the deployment with DEEPFREEZE III , Brough made five trips to 61degrees South, 170 degrees East. One trip tok her across the AntarcticCircle, on February 1958, a "first" for Destroyer Escorts. On three occasions 75 knot winds were encountered, but Brough came through with negligible damage.
On August 23, 1958 Brough departed Key West, FL , via the Panama Canal, for her third trip to Dunedin, New Zeland to take part in DEEPFREEZE IV. Arriving in Dunedin on September 22, 1958 she departed almost immediately to continue her usual duties on station between New Zeland and Antarctica. Between August 23 and November 19 she was at sea 78 days and in port only 8 days.
The Brough left Dunedin, New Zeland for the last time on February 7, 1959. The return to Key West represented another "achievement", first Destroyer Escort to circumnavigate the world alone. Ports of call during the 66 day return trip included Perth, Australia; Colombo, Celon; Aden, Arabia; Athens, Greece; Naples, Italy; Cannes, France; Barcelona, Spain; and Gibraltar. Brough arrived in Key West Florida on April 14, 1959.
On July 15, 1961, Commander Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, announced that Brough won the Battle Efficiency Award for "Competitive Excellence" in Destroyer Division SIX ZERO ONE for fiscal year 1961--the second "E" for Brough.

Dan and all:
You are correct on the "E" I think that it had a lot to do
with us being chosen out of the 6 ships of "CORTRON 14" to make the "Southern
Excursion." By the way CORTRON 14 consisted of Brough, Peterson, Huse,
Sturtevant, Snowden & Strickland. A few minor discrepancies exist though.
The sentence "During the deployment with DEEPFREEZE III" should be DEEPFREEZE
II...Also Brough and her crew were awarded the "Antarctic Service Medal"
Shipmates!
