For some time I have been wanting to contribute my " Favorite Story " to the new Brough website No particular incident of shipboard life seemed significant enough to produce an interesting story . Actually my Brough memories come back to me as a kaleidoscopic focus of episodes that for some reason have lingered in my mind for the last forty - something years. But memories are the spawners of stories . Perhaps one of these rambling flashes that have lingered in my mind so long will jog another mind that is capable of enlarging said subject into an interesting and hopefully amusing story to pass on to shipmates and perhaps even down to another generation .

Do You Remember???

- New Orleans -A purloined streetcar by a shipmate overanxious to return from liberty (Stevenson ? )

- A motorcycle that somehow found a home on the 148?

- New York Liberties One shipmate vowed to have a beer at every bar in New York. Seeing it was our home port he figured it could be accomplished. Even if he is still trying he probably has a lot more to reach?

- Taking on stores How much was smuggled below to provide a never ending smorgasbord for The black gang.?

- Flagbag Refuge A safe haven for hungover bridge crew sponsored by genial Signalman Jack Shultz?

- Three days out of New York when fresh eggs and milk were replaced by a powdered substitute?

- Our first Thanksgiving when most of our green crew actually turned green?

- The officer who's presence was discouraged in the wardroom, so he took his musical instrument out on deck to practice and tortured the rest of the crew instead?

- Beautiful Casablanca ?

- Who the officer Chief Cicolla would pick up under the armpits and move to an isolated area of the deck when the 148 was getting underway or mooring while he softly said " Dear boy please stay over here out of the way."?
